Demonstrated at: #IWCE23
Securing the full value of 3GPP-based Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MC-PTT) requires transitional support for major Land Mobile Radio (LMR) technologies in use today. At IWCE 2023, Samsung Networks and Etherstack demonstrated impressive live transmissions between Project 25 handset devices, 3GPP Mission Critical Push-to-Talk clients, and a console application. What made this demonstration stand out was the excellent responsiveness for MC-PTT floor requests ("the push") and voice transmission ("the talk"), even though the 3GPP-based core network functions, including the LMR Interworking Function (IWF), were hosted in Samsung's Suwon, Korea lab. The P25 Core Network server was operating in Sydney, Australia.
The live demonstration shows the advanced state of progress towards Project 25 Interworking with 3GPP conformant Mission Critical Services infrastructure supplied by Samsung Networks. It is also a significant step for FirstNet because Samsung Networks is the supplier for FirstNet by AT&T's standards-based Mission Critical Services platform. The live demonstration suggests that AT&T should be in a position to make rapid progress with live trials followed by a market launch.
Thanks to Samsung's mission-critical services guru Timothy Paul for this promising demonstration in the Etherstack booth.
