Told in Their Own Words: MCX Advances from Leonardo

Demonstrated at: #CCW24

Leonardo has significantly expanded its portfolio for 3GPP Mission Critical Services. At Critical Communications World 2024 in Dubai, we stopped by the Leonardo stand for an update on the company's latest enhancements. Features such as audio notes and a chat facility expand upon the standard push-to-talk capability.

Significantly, Leonardo invested in integration capabilities that bind together communications from multiple technologies. The integration platform demonstration showcased seamless communications across devices supporting 3GPP MCX, DMR, and TETRA. Along with this interworking, the platform leverages meta-data from all technologies to support capabilities such as auto-grouping geofenced devices for an incident.

Leonardo's commitment to interoperability is strong. The company acquired MCX specialist Alea in 2021 and, in 2024, demonstrated interoperability with a Softil client over a 5G Sidelink. The demonstration highlighted the company's standards-based strategy and was an early proof-point for 5G Sidelink progress.

Thanks to Leonardo's Simon Thompson for sharing the company's MCX advances in 2024.
