Broadcasters need mobility to capture the dynamic activity at the Olympics and FIFA events. A Sony broadcast camera combined with the Sony PDT-FP1 Portable Data Transmitter flows 35 Mbps video to the broadcast production center over 5G. Here, Ericsson shows how new open network APIs allow the dynamic assignment of 5G slice performance to a live camera.
The combination is essential because spectrum availability is challenging at Olympic or FIFA venues during competitions and ceremonies. The ability to dial in the needed Quality of Service parameters for a single active camera translates to efficient resource use, effective mobile operator monetization, and cost-effective, high-quality broadcast operations. These characteristics demonstrate the power and value of 5G Advanced networks.
Thanks to Peter Linder, Ericsson's guru of mega-event communications, for his concise explanation of how Sony innovation and open network APIs driving 5G slicing combine to make a must-deploy solution at the mega-events.
