The value of drone operations during public safety missions is now getting proven daily. But today's operations depend upon manual transport in vehicles that respond to an incident. The next significant step is a move towards Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flight, opening up the prospect for automatic deployment from drone depots strategically located in a response area.

In the Darley stand at FDIC 2023, DroneSense showed its growing portfolio of public safety tools that manage drone flight and link drone feeds to operational teams. The team discussed the company's April announcement of its plans to design and build a drone-mounted 4G/5G control system. When available, that system replaces the handheld drone controllers used in the field with a link to a remote control center. The vision of a CAD-dispatchable drone is gathering steam. Early BVLOS trials in Chula Vista and other jurisdictions have already shown the immense value of drones being dispatched early in a 9-1-1 incident cycle.

The FDIC display demonstrated the value of remote situational awareness support enabled by a DroneSense platform today. The system mixes feeds from locally deployed drones with GIS layers thanks to an integration with ESRI ArcGIS. The result is a compelling common operating picture (COP) for all agencies engaged in an event. DroneSense also extends the COP to incorporate handheld devices operating the Team Awareness Kit (TAK).
